How to get a UTI prescription online in Ontario (free with OHIP)

Burning, urgency, going constantly? In Ontario you can be assessed for an uncomplicated UTI online by a pharmacist - often free with your health card, and with no doctor needed.

If you have the classic signs of a urinary tract infection - burning when you pee, needing to go constantly, cloudy or strong-smelling urine - you don't have to spend hours in a walk-in clinic. In Ontario, pharmacists can assess and prescribe for an uncomplicated UTI as one of the province's minor ailments.

Can a pharmacist prescribe antibiotics for a UTI in Ontario?

Yes. A licensed Ontario pharmacist can assess an uncomplicated urinary tract infection and, when appropriate, prescribe treatment. With Pharmly you do it entirely online - you complete a short questionnaire and a pharmacist follows up, usually within 24 hours.

Is it free?

The assessment is free with a valid Ontario health card. Without one, it is a flat $30. If a medication is prescribed, you pay the usual price for it and your drug plan may cover it.

When a UTI needs a doctor instead

Some symptoms point to a more serious infection and need in-person care - for example fever, chills, back or flank pain, blood in the urine, symptoms during pregnancy, or frequent recurring infections. Our questionnaire screens for these and will direct you to the right care if needed. If you feel very unwell, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.
