What a pharmacist can treat

For ringworm on the trunk, arms or legs, a pharmacist can assess your rash (photos help) and, when appropriate, prescribe or recommend an antifungal cream such as clotrimazole or terbinafine, with advice on how long to use it and how to avoid spreading it to others.

When you'll be referred instead

The assessment screens for cases that need in-person care: rash on the scalp, face, beard area, hands, feet, groin or nails; signs of a skin infection from scratching; a weakened immune system; a widespread rash; repeat infections that keep coming back; or a rash that might be something else (such as a Lyme "bull's-eye", psoriasis, or another skin condition).
